Beyond the Device: Designing Point-of-Care Testing as a Connected, Governed System

When every part of a testing service is optimised on its own, the whole can still underperform. This session looks at what it takes to make the entire diagnostic pathway work together once testing leaves the laboratory.

What the session covers

Five things a testing service depends on once it leaves the laboratory

A 30 minute talk, an opening poll and 15 minutes of facilitated discussion. Educational, not a product presentation.

01

Ownership

Who is accountable for a result produced outside the laboratory, and what happens to quality when the answer is nobody in particular.

02

People

Hundreds of occasional operators, cascade training and no register: why competency has to be recorded per person, per device and per test.

03

Quality you can see

Control results and EQA returns that are visible across every site, and a loop that closes the failures that would otherwise repeat.

04

Results that reach the record

A result on a device screen or in a photographed log is not yet a result the service can govern. What changes when it lands where it belongs.

05

Oversight

One view across sites, devices and operators, so that a drift is noticed on a Tuesday and not at the annual assessment.
